Aforementioned with words such as "gross" and "toxic." What makes them then popular?

Just another form of hot accept without actually saying anything.

They are descriptive words that kind of say a lot, in only 1 discussion. Basically a hot take simply are sometimes advisable.

It's ever been a thing on forums and YouTube and whatnot. People latch onto buzz words and echo them blindly.

Hyperbole
Arguing in bad organized religion
Toxic

The list goes on.

Low effort response that allows someone to contribute a sense of outrage at the topic, without saying annihilation of interest or value.

It's pretty much the same level as "starting time" imo.

Information technology's just a word of assertion, that can be used instead of "Wow" or something similar that. Y'all're reading too securely into it.
  • #xviii
Yikes is super old though

Like... 60s? 70s?

Add together abhorrent on there as well. While information technology's not necessarily a bad thing, just it gets kind of grating when people tin can't think for themselves and start to parrot words they don't ever apply because they saw someone on the net say information technology.

Aye. Also not an insidious comment or hot take. Simply a term.

People don't like to spit their damn hot-takes while swearing. It makes them seem like disingenuous assholes.
  • #26

These are words that have been in the English lexicon for decades.

I used yikes before when someone said something so blatantly racist it was clear to everyone except the poster he'd exist banned shortly. Yikes summed information technology up because there was no demand to explain why the postal service was racist.

Toxic merely means poisonous and harmful, frequently used metaphorically. "This is a toxic mindset." Example if someone were to say "girls like dating assholes instead of nice guys like me", that'southward a toxic mindset that will crusade further harm down the line.

Equally for gross, have we not ever used that give-and-take to draw things that nosotros found unpleasant? For decades.

Just another form of hot have without actually saying anything.
I don't remember you lot're using that word correct.

Y'all discovered the discussion "toxic" and just went to fuckin town with that

As for "yikes", it'south just another easy dismissal of a point of view y'all don't similar. You don't accept to respond to them; the "yikes" makes it seem similar the post in question is obviously self evidently bad. So yous get the moral high footing, last word, and no real try on your part.
